Oslob, Cebu

Our scheduled 4-day-long visit to Cebu in 2012 wouldn't be complete without going to Oslob. After seeing Thresher sharks in Malapascua, our next plan was to swim with whale sharks.

From the South Bus Terminal in Cebu City, we took the first trip bound for Oslob, which was at 4:30 am. Travel time took around 3 hours. The drop-off point for whale shark watching is in Barangay Tan-awan, just along the highway.

We went on a weekday so there weren't much people on site. After paying for the whale watching cost of P500 per local tourist, just had a short orientation and then we were off to see the gentle giants. I sure couldn't contain my excitement.

We opted to snorkel rather than dive as it is cheaper. We were holding onto the banca's outrigger while the whale sharks alternately went around us. The experience was surreal. It may be more fantastic to see whale sharks in their natural environment, not in a state of being fed for tourism purposes---but the fact that we finally saw them made the whole experience worthwhile. Time, money and effort were well spent. In simpler terms, mission accomplished!
