Our plan before the Holy Week in April 2019 was to conquer Mt. Apo’s Sta. Cruz trail. Everything was booked from the organizer down to our round trip plane tickets to Davao. But our climb was cancelled mid-March as the country’s highest peak was declared closed. Our next option was to proceed with our flights and dive in Davao. We have seen how splendid Davao's macro and wide offering can be so it was really the next best thing after Mt. Apo’s closure. Our plans changed, however, due to last minute work commitments and parental duties for our daughter’s year-end program. So our 5-day vacay in Davao turned out be a weekender dive in Anilao, Batangas’ Anilao Boarding House.
The plan was to do shore dives on our first diving day. But just 20 minutes into the day’s first dive and as I was about to photograph a decorated crab, my Canon S120 shut down on me. And this was when I noticed that water has leaked inside my Ikelite underwater casing. But instead of cancelling the dive mid-way, I simply decided to go on with the dive and enjoy what critters will show itself without my camera. Lo and behold, I saw several idiomysis and unusual sea slugs.
After figuring out what caused the leak, Ling and I went on to do another shore dive after lunch. Thankfully, Stuey, our dive master, lent me his Canon G10 complete with underwater setup. And though I had a hard time using it especially when focusing on uber small subjects sans my +5 and +10 diopters, I still enjoyed the weekender’s second dive.

Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
My camera skills and knowledge are still a work in progress. Enjoy browsin’!
