ANILAO, BATANGAS: IT'S A MACRO WORLD

I may have been working ever since I've graduated in 2006 but I play and dive as hard. These underwater pictures are proof of random dive trips in Anilao, Batangas in 2014. I used my Canon S95 camera paired with an Intova ISS 2000 strobe with manual macro settings. There are around 48 dive sites in Anilao and Tingloy area and most of which are reached by boat. I've lost count how many dive sites we've explored but one thing's certain---rain or shine, I always had a grand time underwater.

My favorite dive site? No doubt, Secret Bay. It is known for the variety of marine critters that can be found even in the shallow area, with average diving depth of 20 feet. It is ideal to dive there in the morning as the current keeps up in the afternoon. Expect to see nudibranchs, shrimps, frogfish, ghostpipefish and a lot more, all to your heart's delight.

I will always be thankful to two underwater photography masters I've come to know in Anilao Backpackers: Bebot Esteban and Sol Alcazar. Met Bebot on our return to Anilao Backpackers last March 2014. She was tinkering then with her camera when Ling and I approached her, told her how much we liked her underwater pictures. She was very down to earth and gracious in answering some of our photography questions. Ling did most of the talking as I was too shy then. I tried what Bebot told us the minute we went diving that day. And just like that, I was enlightened! We met Sol when we returned to Anilao Backpackers on the last weekend of March 2014. We went diving together. She lent me her spare Subsee +10---an unforgettable first for me! It was during our dive that I saw a blue-ringed octopus and a flamboyant cuttlefish! Indeed, I really got so lucky!
