Mactan, Cebu: Macro Haven

Five months after our dive trip to Mactan, Cebu last March 2018, we were back with a vengeance! 6 dives weren’t simply enough so we’re back for 6 more to satisfy our macro hearts this year. Booked our dives with none other than Paraiso Com Dream, managed by the world-renowned marine biologist and underwater photographer Yoshi Hirata.

Ling and I were greatly satisfied with P-Com Dream’s underwater genies during our first visit that expectations were high on our return. At the rate of $100 for 3 dives per day (inclusive of lunch), we were in for 6 dives of macro surprises all thanks to the resort’s dive masters Tomo, Romeo and Lisa. Also tried my hand on my newly-bought Scubalamp MS30. After using a torch in several dives, I think it’s time to achieve the snooted light effect on my underwater photos. Thanks Ling for snooting while I’m busy with my cam. =P

Snooting various Cyerce species was certainly the highlight of our dives. The result of seeing the blue highlight on its form was just mind-blowing. And yes, my heart raced upon seeing not just one but two Stiliger ornatus spotted by Romeo. Up until our last dive, our underwater genies didn't run out of macro critters to show. Seeing that uber small hairy shrimp was unexpected but most welcome.

After each diving day, we were also looking forward to Club Paraiso’s dinner prepared by Yoshi-san himself. Our two days spent diving couldn’t certainly end any better!

About Mona

Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
