Mt. Pinatubo

It was the 1991 volcanic eruption that placed Mt. Pinatubo on the world’s spotlight. But who could have thought that one of the most powerful eruptions of the 20th century will bring forth such a beautiful disaster?
At 960 MASL, Mt. Pinatubo is a minor climb with 2 out of 9 level of difficulty. It is accessible via almost an hour of 4x4 jeep ride from Capas, Tarlac. 4x4 jeep rental is pegged at P3,500, good for 5 pax. You can also opt to take an all-terrain vehicle or ATV in traversing the out of this world lahar trail. You can rent one by paying for its P1,500 worth of gas. Environment conservation fee (for both Botolan and Capas side) is at P700/person.
The scenery is literally filled with volcanic sand. Even the mountainous formations are made of lahar. And yes, the distinctive toblerone formation is such a sight to behold.
It will take another hour of trek to reach the summit’s crater lake. Make sure to secure a local guide that'll lead the way. Guide fee is P750, for a group of 5. Expect to pass through streams, stretches of volcanic sand, patches of green here and there, up to that cemented stairs leading to a picture-perfect view of the crater. Though my visit mid-February 2024 was work-related, it was an adventure I nonetheless enjoyed. #ilovemyjob
