Anilao, Batangas: 2016 Birthday Month Opening Dive

I welcomed October, my birthday month, with 5 dives in Anilao, Batangas with Anilao Backpackers. After letting September pass without diving, I was excited to be back underwater to try what I’ve learned during the year’s DRT Show held last September 9-11.

The first weekend of October’s dive mission was simple:

(1) to try the newly-bought Archon mini-torch as snoot;

(2) to use dual strobe for macro photography (I only use dual strobe in wide angle photography before);

(3) to practice edge lighting for bright and black background effect using dual strobe.

Unfortunately, the Archon mini-torch I bought for only P900 failed to produce the desired results. My husband, Ling, even tried a do-it-yourself snoot setup out of a balloon inflator. Too bad it wasn’t bright enough to highlight the subject. =(

On the other hand, I enjoyed using dual strobe in macro photography! Strobe positioning and accurate practice of edge lighting, however, were easier said than done. But it was, nonetheless, a great trial and error experience and something I can get used to. =)

The variety in the underwater subjects we saw was simply amazing. Ling and I can really count on Anilao to always deliver. Uncommon nudibranchs abound. There was this white kind of nudi (just as big as my pinky finger’s nail!) that we always saw in pairs. A clownfish with eggs. A hungry moray eel. And yes, a cute yellow goby! Enjoy viewing!
