Hundred Islands' national park and protected area in Alaminos, Pangasinan is more than just its literal 124 island formation. And since Sumasabog na Kalan or SNK's adventure throughout the Philippines was under way in 2009, it has been no doubt included in our travel bucket list.
We left Quezon City by midnight and travelled 4-5 hours via Victory Liner bus going to Alaminos. We passed by the market first to buy some fresh meal essentials. Rode a tricycle going to Lucap Port where we took the outrigger for our island hopping tour:
1. Quezon Island, which is the most developed in the area and great for snorkelling
2. Children's Island aptly named for its child-friendly condition and where families can ideally spend some quality beach time
3. Governor's Island where the Pinoy Big Brother house is located
The islands we visited were beyond picturesque and we even explored some caves. The boat we rented overnight costs P1,800. We just divided the share per person as we were seven in the group. The trip's official cook was our friend, Dee-aye. The most memorable meal he prepped was Pan-Corn or pancit canton mixed with corned beef. And believe me, it was that good! ;P
We pitched our tents in Lopez Island. Rental is pegged at P200 each. Lo and behond, we had the island all to ourselves! Literally chilled all day long even without electricity. An unforgettable stunt I did then with my friends, Christmae and Gemmie, was to swim from Lopez Island going to Children's Island just for the heck of it. Yes, without wearing a life vest! Also tried kayaking around the Cathedral Cave to bird watch. Found the giant clams, too. We soaked under the sun until it set. Couldn't remember how many jump shot attempts we did for our pictures' sake. These fun, spontaneous small details no doubt filled my love tank through to its core, which is the point of adventure with friends after all. Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
My camera skills and knowledge are still a work in progress. Enjoy browsin’!
