I love how my job brings me to postcard perfect destinations. Just like my first out of town shoot of 2019 in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro last February. As the name of the segment is Sumbungan ng Bayan, our team literally works on the complaints brought to our attention. And unintentionally, we were brought to this picture-perfect island called Ambulong. It is roughly a 30-minute boat ride from the coastal barangay of San Roque.
The unspoiled white sand beach welcomed us to the island. The nature of the complaint concerns one of the elementary schools in the area wherein three classrooms worth more than P10-M were questionably built. Under the Department of Education guidelines, a classroom normally costs around only P1-M. And with the limited number of students in the said school, the additional three classrooms were over and top of DepEd’s budget. We were able to interview the complainant, get the side of the principal and DepEd Occidental Mindoro’s rep. The issue was cleared and explained by all the parties involved.
Though we were in the island purely for work, it was impossible not to appreciate the amazing view around us. And did I mention the breathtaking sunset overlooking Sikatuna Beach Resort where we interviewed the DepEd rep?! We did three more stories in San Jose but Ambulong’s grandiose made the trip worth the hustle.

Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
