San Luis, Batangas: PADI Rescue Diver Certification

Getting certified as a PADI Rescue diver wasn’t actually in my plans this 2015. But after reaching 209 dives by October 2015, why not?

After reading the PADI Rescue diver and EFR manuals, I spent an exhausting weekend of open water exercises and actual demo of primary and secondary care procedures. Stayed in Seasport Park and Dive, a resort managed by my PADI dive instructor, Allan Lao.

In between the weekend’s training, I was beyond thankful to do 2 fun dives (1 fun dive a day): a shore dive in the resort’s house reef and a boat dive in the Pinnacle dive site.

We were surprised to see tons of pink-eyed gobies in the house reef! Got even luckier to see pregnant ones. =) The highlight of our dives though was seeing a white tip reef shark in the Pinnacle dive site! It has been a while since I last saw a reef shark in Batangas. The first and last time was in October 2011...in the Ligpo Cave dive site, after I got certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water diver. Because sharks are one of my most loved marine species, I saw this as a sign of good things to come...not just for me but also for Batangas’ marine biodiversity.

Pinnacle’s wall was breathtaking! Was able to use my wide angle fisheye lens and new Sea and Sea YS02 strobe again after my failed attempt at wide angle photography during my October 2015 birthday dive. This time around, I tried a different wide angle setting. That enormous sea fan was one for the books. And oh, those hungry ribbon eels in action were just mind-blowing.
