After 209 dives, I finally decided to get certified as a PADI Rescue diver in December 2015. It wasn't really planned...just thought about it after my husband upgraded his CMAS certification to 2-star last July 2015. I took my time and just contacted Allan Lao, the same instructor that certified me as an Advanced Open Water diver in October 2011.
PADI's Rescue and EFR certification costs P22,000 inclusive of the Rescue diver and Emergency First Response manuals along with food and room accommodation. We met Allan while diving in Dive and Trek Resort way back 2011. He manages a resort in San Luis, Batangas, Seasport Park and Dive. Got my Advanced Open Water certification there; total cost of which amounted to P14,000/pax inclusive of food, room accommodation, equipment rental and boat transfers. As a resort manager and an experienced PADI/CMAS instructor, I surely learned a great deal from Allan. I spent my weekend physically challenged and fulfilled. It was interesting to learn about primary and secondary care. The actual demo was unnerving! Rescue open water training was exhausting but manageable. Doing everything firsthand is simply different than reading about them in manuals. Proper execution was ultimately the key.
My husband and I have the same dive instructor but we have different dive organizations. It was in 2013 that Ling finally decided to get certified. Instead of PADI though, he opted to have a CMAS-certification. CMAS or Confederation Mondiale des Activites Subaquatiques is a French-based diver training org. It is way cheaper compared to PADI. 1-star CMAS certification costs P12,000 inclusive of training manual, food, room accommodation and equipment rental. But since it has a professional or military diving background, CMAS' training is actually more difficult. Ling underwent two weekends of exhausting training. 2 years after in July 2015, Ling upgraded his CMAS-certification to 2-star at the cost of P14,000. Its PADI equivalent is that of a Rescue diver certification.

Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
My camera skills and knowledge are still a work in progress. Enjoy browsin’!
