Our most-awaited trip to Romblon Island in the third week of May 2016 was our last hoorah for summer.
We flew to Tablas Island via Philippine Airlines flight from Manila. But as of late 2018, Cebu Pacific is the only airline flying to Tablas thrice a week. A one-way flight to Tablas costs around P4,000. From Tugdan airport, it takes around almost 2 hours of land travel and boat ride to go to Three P Holiday and Dive Resort. It is the only dive resort in Romblon Island.
When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by 2 of the 3 P’s of the resort, Philipp and Patrick. As a Filipino, it was quite amusing to meet foreigners who can speak good Tagalog and Bisaya. Also met Kati who was very accommodating in answering our booking inquiries online.
Have I mentioned our room yet? Imagine a cottage overlooking a mangrove beachfront view. Perfect place for random backbends and yoga stretches. And yes, for peaceful nights and calm mornings. Overnight cost of a cottage fan room for double occupancy is P1,950. The resort’s restaurant serves a fusion of local and international dishes. Guests can order a la carte or include half board (P3,050/2 pax) or full board (P3,650/2 pax) meals with their accommodation.
I’ve always been a fan of Anilao’s macro haven but I haven’t expected Romblon’s underwater paradise to be just as great! We did a total of 7 dives but it still weren’t enough. We saw everything on our Romblon dive bucket list...just as promised by our dive guides, Peter and Patrick.
After our 7th dive, Ling and I went around Romblon Island. From the resort, we rode a tricycle going to Bonbon beach. Aside from a few locals lounging here and there, we basically had the beach all to ourselves. The fine white sand on clear blue water was just the needed icing on our dive trip cake.
Last stop was to explore the island’s commercial center. Ling and I were able to hitch a ride with a motorcycle rider headed to town. As we alighted in the island’s marble shopping district, what surprised us was that the rider didn’t accept our payment. Assuming we were tourists, he simply told us to enjoy our stay. And no doubt we did---the diving, the beach and the locals made us not want to leave.

Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
My camera skills and knowledge are still a work in progress. Enjoy browsin’!
