Bauan, Batangas: 2017 Opening Dive

Scenario after my flight from Tacloban arrived in Manila on a Saturday, 7:30 in the morning, third weekend of January 2017: what to do on a weekend after an out of town shoot? The answer came automatically. ;)

After a three-hour sleep at home in Quezon City, Ling and I were already on our way to San Luis, Batangas---no questions asked, just simply, to DIVE. It was a downright unplanned trip. Resort options were only considered upon our arrival in the area. We ended up staying in Bunker Dive Resort, a resort owned by JR Faustino, a fellow diver friend. The resort is only a 15-minute boat ride away from San Luis. And though fully booked over the weekend, we were (thankfully) still accommodated.

Did a total of three dives, which also turned out to be my first three dives of the year. We were off to a great start as we saw a marble shrimp, a (very uncommon) pygmy squid, mating nudibranchs and some damsel fish eggs. Water temperature was still cold but the underwater visibility was good enough. The highlight of our dives was, no doubt, the coconut octopus we saw during the night dive. Hooray for 2017!
