Anilao, Batangas: 2019 Christmas and Year-end dive

After buying a new camera and underwater case last September 2019 during the year’s Diving and Resort Travel Expo in SM Megamall, it took me three long months to finally bring it down for a test dive. The reason behind the purchase dates back last April 2019 when the Ikelite housing for my Canon S120 camera leaked, consequently shutting down my cam of 4 years for good. Moving forward, I decided to try the Sony RX100 camera after being a long-time Canon user. The 50% discount on the Nauticam underwater housing ultimately clinched the deal. It’s a total upgrade in terms of underwater housing durability.

Ling and I booked our stay with none other than Anilao Boarding House on pre-Christmas weekend. We were supposed to do 3 boat dives but since no boats were available, we opted to do shore dives in the Basura dive site in front of the resort. Ling and I were mixing and matching manual settings with our ever-reliable Sea and Sea YS-01 strobe during the first two dives of our first diving day. What got us worried, however, was the fact that there weren’t much critters during our initial dives. We just got lucky during the third dive as we saw an emperor shrimp, several nudibranchs, gobies and crabs.

Our Christmas gifts were waiting for our finale dive on our second day. We saw not one but two hairy shrimps! The gobies were simply icing on the cake. Glad to finally check how a Sony camera fares underwater. I hope you like the output as much as we do! Enjoy viewing!
