Though diving can inevitably be quite expensive, I realized in 2014 that choosing an affordable dive resort is key. Upon seeing Anilao Backpackers’ Facebook page, I was instantly taken by their tagline---‘For backpacking divers, by divers who backpack.’ For a cost-conscious diver like me, an expensive accommodation is just secondary to an affordable and excellent diving experience. This is the basic reason why Ling and I always come back to Anilao Backpackers ever since February 2014.
The P1,400 non-aircon room for two is just what we need for an overnight rest. Welcoming the fresh sea breeze with the windows open and the moon peeking is not bad at all. By the way, the rate is inclusive of unlimited coffee and drinks plus breakfast. They provide hearty meals that prepare divers for a fantastic diving day ahead.
Diving rates vary though based on the diver guests checked in. The more divers there are, the cheaper the diving cost gets. Divers are also given the option of lessening the diving cost by opting to ride a jeepney or tricycle instead of a boat. Was able to try both and it was quite an adventure! Who could have thought that dive equipment loaded in a jeepney or a tricycle can be just as convenient?!
What I like most about Anilao Backpackers though are their experienced dive masters! Whenever I want to see a certain critter, the father and son DM namely Jess and Jesmar, always try their best to find it. Honestly, there hasn’t been a time that Ling and I leave heavy-hearted.
Anilao Backpackers is no longer operational and has changed its management as of our last visit in October 2017. For other resort options, you may contact Jho Cinco at this number: 0999-970-7654, 0998-858-4191.

Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
My camera skills and knowledge are still a work in progress. Enjoy browsin’!
