Mt. Maculot, Batangas
After giving birth in May 2011, I did my comeback climb seven months after in Mt. Maculot in Cuenca, Batangas. Being a minor climb, it is rated with a 3 out of 9 level of difficulty. Couldn't be any more thankful that my comeback climb was also our mountaineering group, Horizon Extreme Adventure Team or HEAT's Christmas party. The plan was to start ascent after lunch. But since I had to work in the morning, Ling and I just followed suit.
Ling and I rode a Lemery-bound bus past 3 pm. Travel time was 2-3 hours. Upon arrival in Cuenca, we then rode a tricycle that took us to the jump-off. It was my third night trek and it was just the two of us. Good thing Ling was very familiar with Maculot's old trail. We didn't get lost in our almost 2-hour ascent to the campsite. We arrived just in time for the Christmas party socials! 'Angry Birds' was the theme of the party and most of us were sporting our Angry Birds' look. Everyone was very much excited with the exchange gift or was it the shots after? ;P
Before breakfast the following day, the group headed off to the Rockies. It is Maculot's death-defying rock formation overlooking a scenic view like no other. I was sure holding my breath while descending the steep trail. I even questioned myself why am I doing it in the first place. Though very challenging, conquering Mt. Maculot's Rockies made me realize how blessed we are to have such astounding wonders. It was no doubt the highlight of my first ever Christmas party climb.
In 2013, a new Mt. Maculot trail was opened to hikers. But just recently, it was closed down and the old trail is good to use again. Getting a guide also became mandatory. Guide fee ranges from P400-800 per 1-5 pax. Hikers are also required to pay a registration fee of P20/head.

Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
