Nagsasa Cove, Zambales

As scenic as Anawangin Cove, Nagsasa's paradise also boasts of agoho trees (that are often mistaken as pine trees), a cove filled with volcanic ash (that looks like sand at first sight) and a vast mountain range. And like Anawangin, the 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption also breathed new life to the island's beauty. After visiting Anawangin in 2009, we promised to also check off Nagsasa from our travel bucket list. And so, Sumasabog na Kalan or SNK explored, exploded and experienced Nagsasa Cove in 2010. Excuse us for our tagline! ;P We were 9 in the group and went there with guides from Anawayne Outdoors.

Land travel from Makati to San Antonio, Zambales took 4-5 hours. From Barangay Pundaquit, the boat directly brought us to Nagsasa Cove's picture perfect backdrop. It was no doubt a chill weekender breather with friends. We swam, napped and enjoyed each other's company without minding the lack of electricity in the island. Such a perfect respite from the urban city life.

Like our exploration of Anawangin in 2009, we were lucky to have been in Nagsasa at its most pristine or simply put, unspoiled state. Personally saw the difference when I came back in 2011 with Ling and our mountaineering group, Horizon Extreme Adventure Team or HEAT. The place became more crowded. Beachfront lots got cordoned off by its buyers. Inevitably realized the value of responsible tourism---of simply cleaning after our waste. Because at the rate the country's tourism is going and with climate change in our midst, the preservation of Nagsasa Cove's beauty is beyond priceless. Let us all do our part and be responsible tourists.
