When you’re up for a drive down south, here’s an itinerary for a siksik-liglig day trip around Cavite.
Start the day early by having breakfast in Angelfields Nature Sanctuary in Silang, Cavite. They're open from 8 am to 5 pm daily. From the metro, the drive will take around an hour via Skyway Stage 3 and CALAX. Dine al fresco in the site’s resto, Cucina Bernardo. What caught our fancy was the amazing flora and fauna in the compound. Well, aside from the breathtaking landscape view that is. Such a feast for the eyes!
There are also Dorper sheep, a variety of duck breeds, heritage turkeys and several free-range chickens in the farm that kiddos and kids-at-heart can feed while waiting for the food to arrive. Though the breakfast meals are quite pricey at P365 per meal, a visit to Angelfields once can no doubt be an unforgettable core memory for the family.
Hazel’s Dragonfruit Farm
After a hearty breakfast, head over to Hazel’s Dragonfruit Farm---just a five-minute drive from Angelfields. They offer pick and pay weekends where you can harvest kilos of dragonfruits to your heart’s delight. For the charge of P150 per kilo, guests can go around the farm and harvest their very own dragonfruits.
Hazel’s Dragonfruit Farm is no longer operational but you can contact them through this number: 0917-391-6253.
The day’s adventure won't be complete without visiting the Artreach Hidden Charm Cafe in Alfonso, Cavite. The fam can eat lunch there and enjoy an art-filled afternoon---book a painting sesh for the gang for the rate of P1,100 per person. Guests will be assisted by an art instructor and the package is inclusive of a 10”x10” canvas panel and use of art materials. From Hazel’s Dragonfruit Farm, the cafe is 40 minutes away. It is open daily from 9 am to 8 pm. They also sell a variety of plants so the plantito and plantita guests can maximize the chill outdoor vibe while enjoying a good cup of coffee.
To book a painting session, contact this number: 0917-831-8723.
Last stop for the day’s escapade is a visit to Museo Orlina---a 30-minute drive back to Tagaytay from the Artreach Hidden Charm Cafe. Entrance fee is P100 per person. It is home to Ramon Orlina’s creations all throughout the years. He is the pioneer practitioner of glass sculpting in the Philippines. My particular fave is the Pintado-07 (see Museo Orlina 6 pic) where he used the sandblasting technique to etch designs on the glass body.
Spend an afternoon appreciating local art while taking in the panoramic Taal vista. Indeed, there simply is no better way to end a drive to Tagaytay without seeing the volcano's iconic landscape.

Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
My camera skills and knowledge are still a work in progress. Enjoy browsin’!
