Anilao, Batangas: 2021 Christmas and Year-End Dive

Ending 2021 with our 5th dive trip of the year and also marked my 350th dive! Compared to 2020’s mere 3 dives logged, 2021’s 19 dives is surely a feat amid the pandemic dragging onto its 3rd year. We sure got used to the local tourism’s implementation of new normal COVID-19 safety protocols.

We booked our Christmas weekend stay with none other than Anilao Boarding House. Our Christmas just got merrier with the resort’s beachfront view room costing only P2,000, good for two pax. I also brought my daughter and parents along for some island hopping adventure.

We scheduled our two dives with Kuya Mac Tabangay, one of our regular fave dive masters. We did one night dive to satisfy our curiosity. We were welcomed by a cute bobtail squid camouflaging in the sand. I was able to use my Scubalamp MS30 again and took my time unwrapping nudibranch presents one after the other. The highlight of our night dive though is the cutiepie juvenile frogfish! Wow, what a sight!

The shore dive the following day didn’t disappoint, too. Our macro hearts are full after seeing pink-eyed gobies, a batwing slug and more nudibranchs. I also took interest in photographing the always-moving juvenile harlequin sweetlip. And yes, we saw an emperor shrimp again! Our simple holiday certainly turned into a feast (for the eyes) underwater. Enjoy viewing and may we all have a FUNtastic 2022!
