No place is more fitting than Davao for my fifth out of town dive trip for 2017. As the ber months are already on its toll, September 2017 seemed to be the best time to start checking off critters in my dive wishlist. See also Davao: Rhinopias Capital.

Though I managed to book our dives with Carabao Dive Center through phone, Ling and I were also able to personally meet the dive shop’s manager, John Neri, in this year’s dive expo in SM Megamall during the 2nd week of September. We were able to plan our dives accordingly based on the critters we most wanted to see.

Ling and I were able to dive in Talicud Island and Samal Island respectively for our two diving days. Aside from the amazing underwater view, we were lucky to have spent our surface intervals in picturesque shorelines.

As this was Ling’s first time in Davao, I led him to the city’s gastronomic offering. His durian craving was more than satisfied. He also had a taste of Luz Kinilaw’s specialty kinilaw, tuna belly, bihod (tuna’s eggs) and bagaybay (tuna’s sperm sacs). The buffet dinner in Waterfront Insular Hotel is also a must-try at a rate of P700/person.

Our third day in Davao was devoted to visiting the Philippine Eagle Center and Eden Nature Park. Entrance fee to the center is P150 excluding the P5 environmental fee. It was enlightening to finally see Pag-asa, one of the endangered Philippine eagles in the country. Ling as well enjoyed photographing the various birds found in the greenery.

The highlight of our city tour was our extreme adventure in Eden Nature Park. We availed the plated snacks day package at P280/adult, wherein the entrance to the park includes a snack in Café Vista or Skyview Café. We tried sky cycling and the zip line called sky rider at a combo rate of P250/pax. Didn’t realize I was in for an exhilarating bike ride up until I was peddling 60 feet high. ;S Thank God the 200 meter long zip line was more manageable. =)
