Anilao, Batangas: Ling's Birthday Dive 2018

Though June 8, 2018 has been officially declared the start of the rainy season in the Philippines, it couldn’t stop us from celebrating Ling’s 33rd birthday underwater. We were back in Anilao Boarding House for our simple celebration...this time, with Xandy and my family. We had the resort all to ourselves by renting the two air-conditioned rooms and two bunker beds for the cost of P5,500. We had sumptuous dinner and lunch fit for our two birthday celebrants, Ling and Nikki, for only P250 per meal. The resort, by the way, is pet-friendly so we were also able to bring Bibo, our pet poodle, along.

More than the beach-themed celebration on land, our two dives were just the perfect gift for our birthday boy. We didn’t expect the visibility to be just as good after the typhoon and ongoing Habagat season. We were able to see a cuttlefish, a squid, a hairy shrimp, a juvenile filefish, two unusual nudibranchs, shrimps, crabs, and ornate ghost pipefishes (one of which is pregnant with eggs). Some underwater subjects were spotted by no less than the birthday celebrant himself. Happiest birthday Ling! =)
