It was an invitation not worth refusing: to climb Mt. Ulap on the first weekend of February 2017. As Ling and I were weighing our chances of going, it dawned on us that this would only be our 3rd climb as husband and wife. Really quite ironic for a couple who met en route Luzon’s tallest peak six years ago.
The original plan changed though as Mt. Ulap has been very crowded lately. The mountain of choice became Mt. Timbak in Atok, Benguet. Known as the 3rd tallest in Luzon and 9th highest in the Philippines, Mt. Timbak is considered a minor climb with 2 out of 9 level of difficulty.
We tagged along my brother-in-law’s group of office mates. We rented a van that brought us to Mt. Timbak’s jump-off not far from Luzon’s ‘Highest Point’ where we unbelievably saw a sea of clouds. As we enjoyed the sunrise over a quick breakfast at the view deck, I can’t help remembering my first picture with Ling who was just a mere acquaintance at Pulag’s peak back in 2010. Life and love happened half a decade after...who would have thought we’ll be on our way to Luzon’s 3rd tallest as a married couple? ;P
Our trek started past 8 am and it took us around 3 hours to ascend and descend the trail. The view of rice terraces and mountain range all throughout the climb was simply breathtaking. Timbak’s peak dubbed as the mini-calvary was also just as splendid. After our second climb as husband and wife in Mt. Talamitam in 2012, Timbak’s overlooking view reminded me not to wait another 5 years to climb again.
Stayed in a transient place in Baguio after the hike, with a capacity for 15 pax. Before heading back to Manila after brunch on Sunday, we were able to stroll in Burnham Park and dine in Café by the Ruins. The trip's overall cost was only P2,000/person inclusive of van rental, accommodation and food.

Certified as a PADI rescue diver. Got my first compact camera in 2011. I was simply content then to just capture a glimpse of what I see during my dives. It was only last February 2014 that I fully maximized the use of manual macro settings.
My camera skills and knowledge are still a work in progress. Enjoy browsin’!
